Providing life-changing experiences through the magic of Summer Camp
Jacquie’s Kids is a non-profit scholarship fund established in 2009 for the purpose of providing scholarships for needy children to attend summer camp. It is also to honor the legacy of a pioneer in the camping industry, Jacquie Ellena, who along with her husband, Jack Sr., founded Mountain Meadow Ranch Summer Camp in 1956. For over 30 years, Jack and Jacquie worked tirelessly serving young people by giving them amazing adventures on their 900 acre ranch paradise, nestled along the eastern slopes of the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was Jacquie’s dream to provide this amazing experience to as many young people as possible.
Even after her passing in 2002, Jacquie’s legacy continues to shine through in the Mountain Meadow program, as campers continue to learn new skills and participate in activities they might never have the chance to do and, through the fun and adventure that camp affords, build character, self-confidence and self esteem.
Jacquie gave so much of herself to every child who attended Mountain Meadow. As camp alumni who also had our lives changed as a result of Jacquie’s caring and compassion, our mission is to give something back.
By donating to Jacquie’s Kids, you will ensure that Jacquie’s mission and life’s work continues on. As 2010 is essentially a start-up year for us, we are calling on all our camp alumni and friends to think back on your experience at Mountain Meadow and how it has affected your life, and how best you can share it with children who are unable to afford such an opportunity. Our minimum goal for 2010 is to send 5 children to camp for a full 19-day session. We need to raise at least $17,000 to do so, which will also help with our operating expenses. And in the interest of full disclosure, none of the Jacquie’s Kids board members, or the selection committee responsible for choosing scholarships, are taking a salary at this time – this fund is for the kids, their welfare, and the operating costs for Jacquie’s Kids only. We are camp alumni just as many of you are, and we understand the importance of sharing our experience with as many children as possible as the top priority.
As the fund allows, our ultimate goal is to provide scholarships for 20 campers to attend summer camp and other quality outdoor enrichment & education programs annually. It is our intent to seek out specific enrichment programs which meet the same mission goals as Jacquie’s and provide scholarships to attend those programs in her honor.
Even if you did not attend Mountain Meadow or any summer camp, but you believe in providing children with the best in quality enrichment programs, we can assure you that your donation of any amount will help towards making programs like Mountain Meadow available to more young people. As we have seen first-hand, summer camp can change a child’s life forever.
